Function Notations
REAL WORLD LINEAR SITUATION!
- A student works part time at Pet Harmony Resort and Spa. The student gets paid at a constant rate of $8 per hour. The student has already saved $128. If the student works 112 hours this month, how much money will she have total this month? You can find this by using y=(m)x+b. But instead of using "y", let's use f(x), they mean the same thing. Next you would replace the "m" with the rate and the "x" with the number of hours the student has worked. Then, you plug in the $128 dollars the student has saved for the "b". You should now have something that looks like f(112)=($8)112+$128. Once you solve for f(112) you should find that the answer is $1024. The student earned $1024 for that month. Also this is a linear function because the amount the student makes increases at a constant rate.
